Health & Safety Accident Reporting
All student, staff or visitor accidents and injuries must be reported to your nearest campus First Aid Centre or Security office. In order to be prepared for any eventuality, be sure to acquaint yourself with their location ahead of time.
It is always best to be aware of procedures before accidents happen. All George Brown College employees are covered under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. If you need access to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), they are available via Insite.
Article 24 of our Collective Agreement requires the College to make reasonable provision for the conditions of safety and health in our work area by conforming with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
The Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) is comprised of worker representatives and employer representatives. Each campus at George Brown College has a JHSC representative at each work site. The Local 556 JHSC representatives are posted on these bulletin boards:
St James A – In the basement, between the cafeteria and Grenville Printing.
Casa Loma, C Building – In the 2nd floor hallway which runs between the cafeteria and the loading dock.
Ryerson Campus – In the photocopy room.

Where our job duties require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required under the OHSA of Ontario, the college must provide such equipment at no cost to us. For example, if you require goggles/safety glasses or special clothing or footwear for your work, the college must provide these items. Specific eligibility problems are resolved by the JHSC at George Brown College.
