College Communications Update
Local 556 leadership has been in communication with College senior management, and we wanted to provide you with an update on the IT system outage situation. As you may know, in an attempt to extort the College, some malware has infected some College systems. ITS was able to shut the systems down and contain the malware. The Local has been assured that our private information is safe and the College has hired outside security experts to confirm this finding. In the unlikely event that some information was compromised, the College will notify those individuals affected.
The College IT team is working on bringing the system back up, and the Ministry has offered to help. It could take up to a couple of weeks to get everything back up, but Human Resources will keep the Local informed as progress is made, and any updates will be passed along to the membership.Right now, anyone sending urgent emails to your GBC email address will not know that you are not getting those emails. If you were expecting any urgent emails, you may wish to notify those folks that you do not have access to your GBC email.
Furthemore: MS Teams has a 90 Day authentication token which is why it is still accessible; however, we are all in a different time period in that 90-day cycle, so MS Teams may slowly become inaccessible for some in the future as those 90 days tick down. Unfortunately, ITS cannot tell us where in the 90 days each of us are because they do not have access to that server.
